In a shocking Delhi–Palwal murder case, police have arrested three men for allegedly killing a 23-year-old neighbour after accusing him of repeatedly harassing the sister of one of the accused. The brutal killing involved making the victim drink beer mixed with rat poison, followed by smashing his head to conceal his identity, according to investigators.
The arrested men – Ranjeet Gupta (24), Sonu Tiwari (25), and Rajeev Kumar (22) – all residents of Okhla, Delhi, were detained on Monday night near the Palwal–Uttar Pradesh border. They have been remanded to police custody for interrogation as the investigation into this honour-revenge crime continues.
Victim Lured for Drinks, Poisoned, Then Taken to Palwal
The victim, Sumit Mit, originally from Bihar’s Madhubani district, had been staying with his uncle’s family in Okhla Phase-I. According to police, the accused invited Sumit for drinks on the night of December 3. During the gathering, Ranjeet allegedly spiked Sumit’s beer with rat poison.
When Sumit became unconscious, the trio put him inside a Maruti Eeco van and drove towards Palwal via the Badarpur border. Police believe the murder took place between 3 am and 4 am on December 4.
Body Found With Disfigured Face to Delay Identification
Local villagers discovered Sumit’s body on December 6 near NH-19 close to Khatela village in Hodal, Palwal. His face had been smashed with stones and bricks, apparently to prevent immediate identification, said police.
At first, the body remained unidentified. But by Saturday night, officers managed to confirm that it was Sumit and informed his uncle, who then filed a complaint naming Ranjeet as a suspect.
Accused Claimed Victim Harassed His Sister
Police say Ranjeet confessed during questioning. He claimed Sumit had been sexually harassing his sister, and even after confronting him, the harassment allegedly continued. Ranjeet also told investigators he had filed a complaint with Delhi Police, though officers are still verifying this claim.
In what appears to be a revenge-motivated murder, Ranjeet allegedly planned the killing with Sonu and Rajeev. They bought rat poison, arranged a fake drinking outing, and transported the victim to a secluded area in Palwal to execute the crime.
Key Evidence Recovered
During interrogation, police recovered:
-
Sumit’s mobile phone, thrown near the murder site
-
The Eeco van used to transport the victim
-
Additional forensic clues from the crime spot
Police say the investigation is ongoing, and more details will emerge as they verify harassment claims and reconstruct the full timeline of the murder.
