A 32-year-old pregnant woman named Aafreen has been arrested in Wazirabad, North Delhi, for allegedly killing her mother-in-law and trying to destroy evidence by setting their home on fire.
Police said the victim, 58-year-old Nasrin Ishatakh, suffered four hammer blows to the head before the fire was started using kerosene. The burned body was discovered after the fire was extinguished.
Initially, Aafreen claimed that unidentified men attacked and robbed her, but police found inconsistencies in her statements. A bloodstained hammer and traces of kerosene were recovered from the crime scene.
Investigators believe the murder was planned and linked to a family property dispute. At the time of the incident, only Aafreen and Nasrin were present in the house, while other family members were at work.
Aafreen, who is reportedly 4–5 months pregnant, has now been placed in police custody as the investigation continues.
