Woman Injured in Public Attack Near Buddha Park; Jealousy Suspected

Bhubaneswar: A shocking incident unfolded near Buddha Park on Sunday morning when a woman was attacked in public, reportedly by a man who suspected she was involved in another relationship.

According to police, the accused, identified as 38-year-old Tinku Gurung from Darjeeling, allegedly used the sharp blade of a nail-cutter to slit the throat of the woman. Locals rushed to help as the woman began bleeding and immediately alerted authorities.

The victim, a 44-year-old woman originally from Darjeeling, has been living in Bhubaneswar for the past seven years and runs a momo stall in the area. She was quickly taken to a private hospital and later discharged after treatment.

Police investigations revealed that the woman and the accused had initially connected over social media and had been meeting frequently. While the woman is divorced, the accused reportedly has a family back in Darjeeling. Police believe jealousy over a suspected new relationship triggered the attack.

The accused had arrived in Bhubaneswar three months ago and was working at a hotel. Officers recovered the nail-cutter used in the assault from the crime scene.

DCP Jagmohan Meena confirmed that a case has been registered, and Gurung was produced in court, where he was remanded to judicial custody.
