In a heartbreaking incident from Mulbagal taluk, Karnataka, a 37-year-old man allegedly killed his four-year-old daughter before taking his own life after his wife eloped with another man, police reported on Friday.
According to officials, the man, identified as Lokesh, had filed a missing complaint for his wife, Navyashri, on Tuesday. The couple had been married for four years. Before leaving home, Navyashri reportedly left a note saying she no longer wished to live with him, wanted a divorce, and asked him not to look for her.
Following the complaint, Lokesh left home with his daughter, Niharika, in his car. He took her to a bakery, bought her favorite snacks, and later, in a shocking turn of events, allegedly strangled her inside the vehicle before ending his own life.
On Wednesday morning, police found Niharika’s body inside the car, which was parked by the roadside, while Lokesh was discovered hanging from a nearby tree.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the wife was in a relationship with another man, which may have driven Lokesh to the extreme act.
Police have registered a case of abetment of suicide under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on a complaint from Lokesh’s father. The post-mortem reports are awaited to confirm the exact cause of death.
